Bacary Sagna The 2011/12 campaign was one in which Arsenal’s ‘Mr Consistent’ endured more than his fair share of bad luck. Having made a strong comeback from a leg fracture sustained at White Hart Lane in October, he sustained a similar injury against Norwich in April that ruled him out of France’s Euro 2012 campaign. It was a tough blow for a player who, either side of his first injury, had yet again met the high standards he set himself upon joining from Auxerre in July 2007. Highlights included a superb headed goal in the return fixture against Tottenham Hotspur, setting the wheels in motion for a marvellous 5-2 comeback victory, and a 200th appearance for the Club in April’s 3-0 win at Wolves. Despite his injuries, which put him out of action for more than four months, he managed to make 29 appearances in total. Bacary, who is of Senegalese ancestry but was born in France, won his first cap for Les Bleus shortly after signing for the Gunners and featured in their World Cup campaign in 2010. Before arriving in England he had represented Auxerre since 2002, winning the French Cup with them in 2005. A firm favourite among Arsenal fans for his immaculate defensive displays, incisive bursts forward and amiable nature, Bacary is now in his sixth season as a Gunner.
