Ryo’s rise from Japanese high-school football to the Premier League is nothing short of remarkable, but the sky is the limit for this exciting young winger.
Blessed with searing pace, agility and quick feet, he was handed his Arsenal debut in last September’s Carling Cup third-round clash against Shrewsbury and also featured against Bolton in the next round. Ryo joined Bolton on loan in January to continue his football education and earned a host of rave reviews during his 14 appearances for Owen Coyle’s side.

In just his second game for the club he scored a delightful goal against Millwall in the FA Cup, and rapidly became a real fans’ favourite despite the club’s relegation to the Championship. Coyle believes Ryo is “destined for a huge career both domestically and at international level” and the young winger was handed his Japan debut against Azerbaijan in May.
Ryo signed for the Club from Chukyodai Chukyo High School in January 2011, and was immediately sent out on loan to Feyenoord. His spell at the Dutch club was so successful that he was given the nickname ‘Ryodinho’ after scoring three times in 12 appearances and delivering a string a eye-catching displays.
Now his next challenge is to reproduce that blistering form in an Arsenal shirt, although the youngster will continue his development in the Premier League with Wigan this season.
